Real Butterfly Wing Jewelry - Necklace - Butterfly Necklace - Blue Morpho peleides
This is a lovely specimen Wing of a Blue Morpho peleides. This wing is a bottom wing and measures 5.5cm x 4.5cm and is highly iridescence. I have used a wavy solder around the glass and added black patina to match and compliment the wing. I attached a sterling silver large bail at the top .It is on an 18” chain made with silver mottled coins and navy blue crystals that have an AB finish that match the wing perfectly.
Morpho butterflies are forest dwellers but will venture into sunny clearings to warm themselves. They typically live alone, excluding mating season. Males are territorial and will chase any rivals. The people along the Rio Negro in Brazil once exploited the territorial habits of the Blue Morpho by luring them into clearings with bright blue decoys. The collected butterfly wings were used as embellishment for ceremonial masks.

ALL butterflies that I use are farmed and not wild caught so that the natural populations of the butterflies are not being depleted by poachers

Innovative Handmade Wooden Wall Racks

image

The talented wife-and-husband design team from Iceland, whose store is fittingingly-named Agustav - derived from their forenames, Agusta and Gustav - are responsible for creating highly-distinctive and functional wooden wall racks.

“We’re both from Iceland, currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark. Since we met we’ve been throwing ideas around and had a vision of creating and designing things together full time.”

Inspired by the available space on the walls of their apartment, they began conceptualising functional products to adorn them, whilst amassing a collection of vintage items to give their new-found space character and depth.

“It all started in our tiny apartment, as we needed space to accommodate our excessive need to collect all sorts of items. In our tiny space we found each inch of the home to be a canvas for creativity and resourcefulness.”

Their handmade multipurpose rack, made from exotic wood - including wenge, pine, oak and beech - is innovative and sleek with adjustable and removable pegs from which you can hang your treasured possessions!

“We designed these with simplicity in mind and wanted something that could fit into any home. We typically start with a big chunk of wood, which we then build, break, mend and shake until we’re happy with the result.”

Their range of pegs can accommodate various household items: their hanging pegs, made from waxed cotton and wood, are specially designed to hold books, while the regular pegs are suitable for coats and towels. The product itself has the ergonomics of a washing line, making the process of fastening and removing the pegs efficient and easy.

Due to the minimalist design aesthetic, their wall racks have received a broad appeal and have even managed to find their way into a children’s bedroom.

“One of our customers bought a book rack for their friends children’s room, we thought that was brilliant as we had never really thought of it as an item that could fit into a children’s room. We really cherished this feedback as it gave us a new angle on our product’s versatility”

Their Current Collection was recently showcased at DesignMarch - Iceland’s annual festival celebrating the work of emerging local designers - to an audience eager to discover fresh, new ideas and offer advice.

With additional products in the pipeline, the two designers have a serious future ahead of them. The next product they intend to launch, showcased at the festival, is a wooden wall mount for iPhone users with a single book peg and stand alongside it - a convenient bedside buddy!
